York Liberal Democrats are deeply saddened by the death of Cllr Lynn Jeffries, Councillor for Westfield Ward.
Councillor Keith Aspden, leader of the Liberal Democrat council group, has said: “We are deeply saddened by Lynn’s passing. Our best wishes at this very difficult time are with Lynn’s friends and family. During her time on the council Lynn has been a devoted community councillor, a champion for equalities and a good friend. She will be greatly missed.”
The Press has paid tribute to Lynn saying she was one of York’s “brightest stars” and “was known throughout the city for her tireless work to improve standards for disabled people”.
Lynn, who was born in Darlington, came to the city in 1989 to study Sociology at the University of York. Before becoming a councillor in 2011, Lynn worked as a Specialist Advisor on the Disability Discrimination Act and an Equalities Consultant.
Lynn was well known as a tireless campaigner for disabled people through her work with the York Coalition of Disabled People and as chair of the York Independent Living Network. Lynn herself was left partially disabled following a skiing accident in 1992. Amongst her many campaigns was her work to improve access for blind, deaf or disabled shoppers in York’s city-centre.
Our sincere condolences at this difficult time are extended to her family and many friends
