Huntington & New Earswick Lib Dem Councillors are calling for disruption to local residents to be minimised as demolition work begins at the site of York’s new Community Stadium.
Early works have started this week which will eventually lead to the demolition of Waterworld and the existing stadium complex. Alterations to the Park & Ride site are also expected to begin next week ahead of the construction of new facilities.
Local Lib Dems are calling for the council and developers to do everything they can to ensure that traffic in the surrounding residential area is minimised as much as possible. They say this is particularly important with increased traffic in the run up to Christmas and work also taking place on Jockey Lane until the end of November.
Cllr Keith Orrell, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Huntington & New Earswick, commented:
“With demolition and construction work going ahead and the additional volume of traffic expected from now until after Christmas we need to make sure that the council and developers do everything they can to minimise disruption to residents. It is particularly important that traffic accesses Monks Cross and the construction site from the ring-road and Malton Road and not through the residential roads of Huntington.
“I am pleased to see that the council appears to be signed-up to this and has said it will be advising residents to plan their journeys, make use of public transport as much as possible, and follow the road signage advising them of the most appropriate routes for their destination. I will be working with my colleagues Cllr Runciman and Cllr Cullwick to make sure this happens in the coming weeks.”
