Local Liberal Democrat Councillors for Huntington and New Earswick have voiced serious concerns over the recently proposed Garden Village.
The proposal, which has been designed to take go ahead in recently developed Huntington and New Earswick, could have the potential to significantly delay the Local Plan.
Central Government has already threatened to intervene in the Local Plan, should it not be completed by May 2018 and such a large proposal would need further consultation with the local area.
Cllr Keith Orrell said:
“It would be of huge concern if a further large site were to be included in the Local Plan at this late stage. It is imperative that the local plan represents the views and ambitions of local people and given that Government has already threatened to intervene, this proposal risks delivering our Local Plan.”
Cllr Carol Runciman said:
“The Huntington and New Easwick area has seen considerable development over recent years and it would be wholly unfair to local residents if a further large scale development was imposed on the local area.”
Cllr Chris Cullwick added:
“There is a disproportionate amount of development in the area, with nearly 200 homes built alongside the Vanguard Shopping Complex. This has dramatically increased traffic in the area and with a further 900 homes to come at Monks Cross Drive, only more traffic will come, despite improved traffic management schemes. Residents have, quite rightly, had enough.”
